In 1868 whilst a tunnel was being driven through Redcliffe to develop the docks railway a forgotten part of Redcliffe Caves was rediscovered. One November night a party of Victorian adventurers explored this lost portion of the caves. In a small chamber at the limit of their exploration they carved their names into the rock. After much investigation I found the obituary of Mr Gardiner, he was a surgeon for the Great Western Railway who lived at No. 1 Colston Parade.
